Coral Springs, Florida – Area youth and teens can attend the Coral Springs Museum of Art’s annual summer art camps, offering art projects and on-site instruction from June through August.
Students ages 5 to 17 who want to be part of art camps this summer should come with minds ready to “be creative and have fun,” said museum director Jill Brown. She said that “this is the second year for culture camps and full-day teen camps, and it will be a great time,” she said. “We are excited to be able to offer an in-person experience while being safe as part of our museum.”
The summer camp begins on June 13 and lasts two weeks. The museum offers half-day ART START camps in the morning for 5/6 year olds. Campers will have the opportunity to discover a variety of techniques and materials while having fun!
Teenagers aged 13-17 will have intensive half-day studios where they focus on a particular medium, eg pottery, painting/drawing etc. Teens will work with teacher artists to hone their interest and skills and learn new tricks and techniques. This is open to students of all levels and interests
The cultural camps for 7 to 12 year olds are all day camps based on the following themes:
Session A: June 13 – June 24, no camp on June 20 Breathtaking Japan: Due to Japan’s long period of isolation from the outside world, it has formed a distinct culture inspired by its beautiful island. Experience Japan’s rich visual history, from cherry blossoms and woodcuts to the anime and bright lights of modern Tokyo at this exciting camp!
Session B: June 27 – July 8 no camp on 4th of july Impressive Australia: Are you ready to dive? Take a trip into the outback with kangaroos and koalas and learn about Aboriginal art and the Great Barrier Reef. Join us in this exploration of the Australian continent!
Session C: July 11-July 22 Super Scandinavia: Whether you like castles and dragons or princesses and vikings, this camp is for you! From their woodcarving, to their intricate knots, to depictions of fantastical animals, have fun exploring the unique and iconic culture of the Scandinavians!
Session D: July 25 – August 5 Magnificent Mexico: travel back in time, from the ancient art of the Mayans and Aztecs to modern murals and mosaics! Explore Mexico’s parades, piñatas, and even lively tacos! Learn all about this rich culture and discover the wonders of Mexico!
Cultural camp students will rotate through three different studios per day, pottery, painting/drawing and mixed media. This allows camps to have a variety of experiences and try different things. At the end of the session, there will be a family art exhibit for children.
