Art gallery returns to Bangsar

KLAS PLUS Art Gallery makes a welcome return to its original base in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur after seven years.

After moving to their second gallery in Jalan Utara, Petaling Jaya, KLAS Managing Director Datuk Gary Thanasan felt it was time to return to Bangsar after renting the premises for several years.

In an interview with StarMetro, Gary cited several reasons for returning to Bangsar, one of them being the lack of space to hold events such as auctions.

“Our Petaling Jaya Art Gallery had very limited space, which made it difficult to hold auctions and private art sales at the same time.

“We only had one common space to hold events,” he said.

“If there was an auction, we had to dismantle our works to prepare for it, and once the auction was settled, we put the other works back in place.

“With these issues in mind, we wanted to dedicate a specific art space without disrupting our auctions and private art sales.

“We also wanted to minimize any repositioning of our artwork, in order to preserve it,” he added.

Gary also recalled the many art lovers visiting the Bangsar gallery, but when KLAS moved to Petaling Jaya they started coming less often.

“We wanted to be accessible to our clientele, making it easy to return to our Bangsar gallery due to its location,” he said.

The Bangsar Art Gallery is divided into two floors, the ground floor dedicated to private art sales and the second floor is reserved for auctions.

“Currently on the ground floor alone we have 117 works of art on display,” Gary said.

“Unlike Petaling Jaya Gallery where we frequently had to hang up our paintings, they are now on display at all times, ready for buyers to view,” he added.

The Bangsar Art Gallery is undergoing renovations which should be completed by November.

However, Gary invites art lovers to visit in the meantime.

“It’s a joy for me to see people come here and appreciate the art.

“Of course, not everyone will buy a piece, but if they can appreciate the artwork like I often do, then that’s good enough for me,” he said.

KLAS PLUS is located at No. 150, Jalan Maarof Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
