LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Plans to build a new arts center are taking center stage in the town of Lansing. And, it might attract some big names.
Lansing once hosted renowned rock concerts in its Civic Center. This center was demolished in 1999. Now the city of Lansing will receive $ 2 million. in state funding to be devoted to the new performance hall.
Yet it’s not the only money which comes into play. The entertainment complex will house the Lansing Public Media Center. They also racked up $ 8 million in financing to be implemented In the center.
The media center was at its location on South Washington Avenue for about 10 years. However, the building itself dates from the 1960s. and is getting pretty run down, as the current location was never meant to be permanent.
News 10 spoke with Dominic Cochran, director of the Public Media Center. He says he can’t wait bring this community cultural anchoring to the capital.
Cochran also said the teams will likely open the pitch in the spring of 2022, opening the art center sometime in 2023. More details on the location next month.
