The Ludwig Forum for International Art offers a permanent part-time (m / f / d) Deputy Director position with 19.5 hours per week. The position is open to applicants with a university degree in the following fields: art history, art studies, cultural studies, museology / museum studies or an equivalent university degree. Ideally with several years of professional experience in the field of exhibitions (museums and comparable art institutions or independent activities for art foundations, etc.). The Junior Assistant directly supports Director Eva Birkenstock and Deputy Director Dr. Annette Lagler in the areas of conservation and organization.
The Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst Aachen is an exhibition center for international contemporary art. It is based on the collection of Peter and Irene Ludwig, comprising key works of world art from 1960 to the present day. The Ludwig Forum collection is at the heart of a program of exhibitions, events and education that is as polyphonic, diverse and transdisciplinary as possible.

Your main missions
–Represent the management in all communication issues with museums and the various collaborators of their administrations (m / f / d), as well as with representatives (m / f / d) of the press, the foundation, sponsors and other collaborations and partnerships
–Represent the management in personnel management
–Support the management in the implementation of all the artistic programs of the establishment and the program of exhibitions and research projects in particular, including the preparation of funding requests
-Complete development and management of the institution’s exhibition formats, including design, academic publishing, budgeting, exhibition facilities, etc.
–Academic supervision of specific areas of the collection and expert support for the inventory of the collection
–Management of publications incl. supervision of printed products as well as partial management of support programs for temporary exhibitions as well as presentations of the collection
– Supervision of repair and maintenance projects
What you bring with you
–A university degree in the following fields: art history, art theory, art studies, visual arts, fine arts, cultural studies, museology / museum studies or an equivalent university degree
– Ideally several years of professional experience in the field of exhibitions (museums and comparable artistic institutions or independent work for art foundations, etc.)
– Willingness to lead and the ability to motivate and inspire employees (m / f / d) with an integrative and cooperative leadership style
– Demonstrable academic publication activity
–In-depth knowledge of the field of international contemporary art
–Good MS Office skills
–Very good command of English
–Communication skills and a high level of social competence during sometimes difficult negotiations with third parties
– A high level of commitment and initiative, a demonstrable proactivity and an autonomous start, in particular in the acquisition of knowledge in new fields of artistic study (essential)
–Structured and independent working methods in addition to assertiveness and persuasion
–PhD completed in the following fields: art history, art studies, cultural studies, museology / museum studies or in a comparable field

It is possible to fill the position with part-time staff provided that the staffing is ensured within the framework of the targeted work schedule (19.5 hours). The respective working hours of part-time staff would then be determined in consultation with management.
