DAMARISCOTTA – River Arts opened “Black & White” on February 15 at the gallery located at 36 Elm Street Plaza, the exhibition will continue until Saturday March 26. The collection of works in a wide range of media is bold and outgoing, engaging the viewer in conversation with the artists through their work on gallery walls, according to a gallery press release.
Juror Jack Silverio, who chose works by 80 artists for the exhibition, looked for pieces that were “confident, not hesitant or confused; faithful to their intention; and whole and complete in themselves.
The artists were called upon to capture works in black and white and the resulting spectacle shows the diversity of possibilities within this singular constraint.
From the minimalist to the complex, from the organic to the geometric, from the reserved to the exuberant, the “Black & White” show highlights contrasts.
Sculpture, paint, graphite, ink, collage, encaustic, fiber, wood and photographic works are included.
Winter hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Masks are mandatory in the gallery.
